Introducing ShoeString Science
My name is Roger Wilson and I have started a business.
I have been a science teacher for several decades with teaching experience in classrooms in several New Zealand and Australian high schools. I have shared the experiences and frustrations of many teachers of Science with limited time to construct materials and budgets that don’t seem to go far enough to provide the equipment we would have liked to make learning times in our classrooms a richer experience.
Over the years I have constructed many pieces of equipment in different schools. I am convinced that the more opportunities students have to explore the concepts being taught with hands on activities the higher the quality of learning.
I have a degree in Physics from Otago University, a Diploma in Teaching from the New Zealand Department of Education and am currently the holder of a full Practising Certificate from the New Zealand Teachers Council. Allied with this I am a keen DIY person and have been an Electronics enthusiast since my Primary school days.
It is not my goal to duplicate science resources currently available, unless I can offer a significant price and/or operational advantage. As you look at the projects on offer, I am sure many of you will have made something similar over the years. Others will be thinking that you would if you had the time. Why not let me make it for you and let you focus your energies upon teaching?
